Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

At Weston Shore Infant School and Weston Park Primary School, our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) aims to provide pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active and responsible citizens.

How PSHE is taught at Weston Shore Infant School and Weston Park Primary School

Our curriculum provides structured opportunities for the children to develop and practise personal, social and life skills. They explore a variety of issues, including rights and responsibilities, emotional health, keeping safe and friendship.

We promote ‘British Values’ through our spiritual, moral, social and cultural education which permeates through the curriculum offer and supports the development of the ‘whole child’

At Weston Shore Infant School we promote a multi-faith curriculum where each person is respected and valued equally without regard to ability, gender, faith, heritage or race.

The staff work closely with parents, carers and other professionals to ensure that the pupils are happy, well cared for and enabled to learn the skills they need to live a fulfilling life as part of their community.

SMSC and philosophy in PSHE

SMSC stands for Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development. This is at the heart of our curriculum and we want our children to make safe choices and develop a deep spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. We actively look for links to this.

We also teach P4C, Philosophy for Children, and we want our children to have the chance to discuss and debate in an open-minded manner.
